Areas of support
Psychologist for anxiety
Yes, therapy helps with anxiety. With evidence-based psychological support you learn to recognise what triggers your anxiety, to regulate your body's reactions, and to respond to anxious thinking more flexibly — gradually regaining a sense of calm and control. Sessions are available online or in person, in Portuguese or English.
What it can look like
- Constant worry that's hard to switch off, even without a clear reason.
- Physical tension: tight chest, shallow breathing, racing heart.
- Trouble falling asleep, or sleep that doesn't feel restful.
- Irritability, fatigue and difficulty concentrating.
- Avoiding situations, places or conversations out of fear or anticipation.
- Anxiety or panic attacks that arrive unexpectedly.
How I work with it
My work with anxiety is personalised and evidence-based. There’s no single formula: we start by understanding how anxiety shows up for you — in your body, your thoughts and your daily choices — and from there we build a path that fits you.
I draw on approaches with proven effectiveness, such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) alongside emotion-regulation and mindfulness strategies, integrated flexibly. In practice, this means:
- Understanding the triggers and cycles that keep anxiety going.
- Learning to regulate physical reactions (breathing, tension, arousal).
- Questioning and loosening the thoughts that fuel worry.
- Re-approaching, safely, the situations you’ve been avoiding.
The pace is always yours. My role is to create a safe, non-judgemental space where you feel supported to find balance again.
What to expect
- A first session (about 50 minutes) to understand what brings you here — unhurried and without judgement.
- A personalised plan, with clear goals and at your own pace.
- Practical tools you can use day to day, between sessions.
- The format you prefer: in person in Aveiro or online, in Portuguese or English.
