Neuropsychological assessment
A neuropsychological assessment is a structured evaluation that measures functions such as memory, attention, language and reasoning, to understand cognitive functioning and guide the most appropriate support. It's useful for learning difficulties, attention disorders, brain injury or memory complaints, and results in a clear report with practical recommendations. Available in person in Aveiro.
What it can look like
- Memory complaints, frequent forgetfulness or disorientation.
- Difficulties with attention, concentration or organisation.
- Learning difficulties or school performance below what's expected.
- Cognitive changes after stroke, head injury or neurological illness.
- Suspected ADHD, dyslexia or other neurodevelopmental conditions.
- A report needed for school, work or medical follow-up.
How I work with it
My work in neuropsychology has two complementary strands: assessment and intervention/rehabilitation.
In assessment, I use validated, age-appropriate instruments to map cognitive functioning rigorously. The goal isn’t just to produce numbers, but to understand the person in their context and translate the results into useful, concrete guidance.
In intervention, when indicated, we work on specific abilities — attention, memory, organisation, compensatory strategies — with a personalised plan. Throughout the process I aim to:
- Answer questions and ease the anxiety that assessment can bring.
- Involve the family, school or other professionals whenever it helps.
- Provide practical recommendations you can apply day to day.
The result is a clear picture of cognitive functioning and a concrete path to support it.
What to expect
- An initial interview to understand the concerns, history and goals of the assessment.
- Testing sessions with validated instruments (memory, attention, executive function, etc.).
- Analysis of the results and a clear, personalised written report.
- A feedback session: explanation of the results and practical recommendations.
